Cappadocia, where fairies live

In this magical corner of central Turkey, fairies sleep in golden sandstone mountains. People also. You too.

Imagine you are flying over a desert. You look from above and you see nothing but yellow. As you get closer you see strange cones, huge cylindrical shapes and wonderful chimeneys that emerge from the surface. They exist since the Earth is Earth and man lives there from immemorial times. Cappadocia was a secure shelter for the first Christians. Its air is so dry that even today you can visit incredible troglodytes crammed churches with beautiful paintings.

If you low your altitude and you are encouraged to walk or drive a scooter, you’ll discover that Cappadocia, among its fairy chimneys, has small valleys where grapes and olives grow. The people who cultivate them live in villages as timeless as fairies: Göreme has the most “cave houses’ where you can stay and the best places where you can rent an old bike or an even older scooter. Then there are Uchisar, Cavusin, Zelva -where you access to the unreal Devrent Valley-, Ortahisar, Urgup, Mustafapasa…

Want to flow in another world? Cappadocia is the place. You’ll see that everything is different there. Tea is drunk at any time while lying in incredible carpets and pillows, no one lives in houses, all live in caves. You too. The experience is fascinating, especially in the morning when you awake. You’ve slept very deeply in a clean room where there are no noises, no insects, or odours. But you’ll notice a subtle gold dust on your skin. It is sandstone… for thousands of years, slowly falls from the magical caves.
